1st Annual Poker Ride a Huge Success
On February 23, 2019, VIVV held its First Annual Poker run to benefit homeless Veterans in the Phoenix area.
The morning was unexpectedly chilly, but our gracious host Sage and Sand owners Lucia and Mitch Stevens had the coffee going and had the kitchen preparing a great breakfast, which was available for purchase. The ride, totaling 141 miles, started with a short skip to the Wild Horse West as our first stop to enjoy the beautiful mountains, the crisp air, and a cup of coffee. Then it was off to the American Legion in Wickenburg. By this time the sun was out bright and taking the chill out of the air and everyone was ready for the next leg of the route going down the picturesque Vulture Mine Rd. to the Tin Top Grill in Tonapah, which turned out to be a popular lunch spot before heading to the American Legion in Avondale and then finally back to Sage and Sand for the festivities to begin.
We announced the winners of our Poker Run, 50/50 drawing and the unbelievable variety of prizes that were raffled off from the donations from our families, our supportive peers, community at large and generous businesses throughout the valley.
We want to thank our very own National Sgt. At Arms, Joshua Strickland’s band, The Bayou Bandits, for rocking the house once the ride returned to Sage and Sand, be sure to check them out as they play throughout the valley, you can find them on Facebook and Instagram.
To all of the participants, vendors and various businesses, we give our deepest appreciation for your support, time, and donations which will benefit the homeless Veterans in the Phoenix area.
Next years ride will be on February 22,2020, so please mark your calendars as next year’s event promises to be bigger and better!!
